The origins of the g-lec Skills Academy go back many years to the foundation of gas-elec Safety Systems, when the company directors were involved in building services and training – mainly electrical engineering, contracting and maintenance. To meet the increasing range of regulations relating to electrical and gas installations and associated appliances, training facilities were developed in 1995.

Capitalising on over 40 years of combined industry experience, the directors created a customised training centre, and established training programmes with accreditations in City & Guilds, CITB, BPEC. It is also ISO 9001 Quality Assured and has won awards for excellence in its field.

Today’s g-lec Skills Academy is a 4,000 sq ft expansion to the original award-winning facilities, featuring state-of-the-art lecture rooms and access to the latest technology. The Skills Academy facilities offer courses and assessments for people seeking training in electrical and gas engineering and plumbing plus non-specialised training such as valuable Health & Safety at Work courses and the latest Domestic Energy Assessment courses for the provision of Energy Performance Certificates.

As part of the Academy's key emphasis on technical training, the centre provides a wide variety of gas boilers, electrical units and appliances to allow trainees to gain the most wide-reaching and practical knowledge available. Real ‘hands on’ experience under the watchful eyes of fully-qualified trainers gives them the confidence to express these skills out in the field, whether they be novices or independent, qualified engineers looking to expand their horizons.

Continuing our drive for excellence in training, the g-lec Skills Academy will continue to expand to include ever-broader areas of expertise, with the aim of making g-lec the definitive academy for all skills as well as the premier vocational training facility in the UK for independent tradespeople and entrepreneurial businesses nationwide.
