How do I find out the start date of a particular course?

Call us on 0845 867 1337 and we will be happy to give you the dates and book you in if you want us to.

Do I need to refresh my training and qualifications for the 17th Edition?

The 17th Edition came into force in January 2008, and there is a six-month grace period until 1st July for electricians to update their qualifications. For those without the 16th Edition, the four-day course is required.

By 2010 all electricians will have to meet the minimum standards of 17th Edition C&G 2382, a test and inspection package C&G 2391 or C&G 2392, and have knowledge of Building Regulations.

What qualifications are available for the 17th Edition?

There is a one-day intensive update course C&G 2382-20 suitable for working electricians who have the 16th Edition. For those less experienced or qualified there is a four-day course C&G 2382-10.

What is an Energy Performance Certificate?

An Energy Performance Certificate informs how energy efficient a home is on a scale of A-G. The Certificate also indicates, on a scale of A-G, the impact the home has on the environment. The average property in the UK is in bands D-E for both ratings.

Who needs an Energy Performance Certificate?

Anyone who is selling a property of whatever size now needs an EPC as part of the Home Information Pack. From 1 October 2008, new tenancies will also require an EPC. People requiring EPCs will therefore be home owners, estate agents, letting agents, and landlords.

Do I need to be CORGI registered?

Self-employed engineers and employers need to be registered with CORGI by law before they can carry out gas work. If you work for a company they should be CORGI registered and should provide to CORGI a list of all operatives they employ.

Will I gain CORGI registration on completion of the gas assessment?

Once you have proved competence and hold the appropriate certificates you are able to apply for CORGI registration.

What is ACS?

ACS or Accredited Certification Scheme is the means by which gas operatives are assessed to prove their competence in gas safety. Subject to certain provisions, the law requires all persons working on gas to be competent to do so. Unless a person has been assessed through the above scheme they have not proved competence and are not legally able to carry out any work to a gas appliance or system. Upon successful completion of assessment a certificate valid for five years is issued as proof that competence has been demonstrated. Details of all operatives that are deemed competent are also kept by CORGI (The Council of Registered Gas Installers).
